Lindsey Aerts (host of KSL's "The Mom Show") and I recently discussed the ambivalent feelings that come along with motherhood. While all moms have conflicting feelings about their experiences raising children, it can be confusing and even shame-inducing to admit to ourselves that we don't always love the work. Our society seems to promote the idea of "or:" we either love motherhood or we hate it. But the truth is that our real-life experiences are a lot more nuanced, and so Lindsey and I talked about how we need to embrace the "and" to normalize these sometimes opposing feelings. It's okay to say "this is really hard right now, and I still love you so much." We are human, and admitting that we don't love every part of motherhood does not make us bad moms!
