Guest Appearance: The Butter Dish: Why Weight Loss Won’t Fix You

I was recently a guest on The Butter Dish podcast. I spoke with hosts Natalie and Heidi about why weight loss won’t “fix” you or improve the way you feel about yourself. This thought is a common trap that women fall into. Culturally, women are defined by their bodies and appearance. With this frame of thought, of course we think that if we change our appearance we will feel better about ourselves!

Your body is part of the toolbox you are given as a human being. You live in your body, and it is a crucial piece of you. Your body, however, is different from your sense of self. Your sense of self is your unique thoughts, feelings and experiences. It lives in your body, but it is not your body. You cannot change your sense of self by changing your appearance. Losing weight may make you feel thinner or more culturally accepted, but it will not change you because your sense of self is not your physical body.

We also talk extensively about my course on grieving and healing unmet childhood needs. In this course I teach helpful tools like how to be a good parent while unraveling your own unmet childhood needs and how to resolve abandonment and traumas. Click here to learn more about or buy the course.
