Modesty with Dr. Julie Hanks: The Messy Bun Podcast

I recently spoke with Penny and Steph, hosts of The Messy Bun Podcast, about the challenges of parenting teen girls in a world that narrowly defines modesty as what women wear.

It can feel intimidating and overwhelming to talk about modesty with our teenagers. When people talk about modesty, they are usually talking about what women wear. But modesty is so much more than clothes: It is an attitude of humility in how we present ourselves. Modesty is how you treat other people, what you lead with, and what you want other people to know about you.

We talk about how to discuss dress codes with your daughters, how to help your daughters evaluate what they want others to notice about them, and how to share your values without objectifying. Click play above to listen in!

“What young women need is to be seen and treated as multi-dimensional human beings. By focusing primarily on a girl’s appearance, we run the risk of neglecting her soul, her mind, her dreams, her talents, her capabilities, and her future.”
