Idealizing Motherhood: The Sisterhood Podcast
Back in October, Allyson and Tiffany of "The Sisterhood Podcast" discussed my TEDx Ogden Talk entitled "The Costs of Idealizing Motherhood"on their show. Later, they were kind enough to have me on an episode to tell more about what inspired my talk.
I described growing up in a culture where men and women were expected to fulfill certain roles. I knew that I wanted to have a family and a professional career, but I had to work against cultural and religious norms to craft the kind of life where I could have both. Renegotiating household responsibilities, fighting through aspirational shame, and learning to create a partnership approach to marriage has been far from easy, but it's allowed to me to have a life that is very satisfying both personally and professionally.
